Welcome to the third grade classroom web site. I am incredibly excited for this year with your children! There is so much to learn in third grade. We have gorgeous new text books this year for Language Arts and Math! I ask that you help me instill a love and respect for books with your child. At this age we are starting to give your student more and more responsibility. For instance, this is the year students will learn to use a daily planner. I will ask that you sign the planner every night and return to school the next day so we can teach students how to plan and be responsible for events and due dates on the calendar.
In Social Studies your children will go on an adventure to learn about our communities in California. They will learn about the four regions of California, the topography of the land and the people that first lived here. We spend a considerable amount of time on the native tribes of California. This gives me a great deal of excitement as I chose to study Native American Art as a part of my undergraduate course work while at UC Davis.
In Language Arts we are diving head first in to Common Core and loving the wonderful stories and beautiful illustrations that they contain. We want to help develop good readers. There is a new reading program that will begin in October that will help your child select books appropriate for their reading level and interests. In turn, this will keep them excited about reading and continue their success in school.
